Canada and Australia are on opposite sides of the world, but these countries have a lot in common, to wit:
they’re both former British colonies and members of the Commonwealth;
their populations are majority white and English-speaking, but they also have very large immigrant communities;
both countries are sparsely populated, with their people heavily concentrated in several large cities;
Canadians and Aussies alike love their beer and outdoor activities, as well as cooking various meats on barbecues and/or barbies; and,
in both nations, serious offences are punishable by booting. (I’m pretty sure it’s in the Criminal Code of Canada somewhere, I mean, it’s like 5,000 pages long so who could read all of that?)

And now we can add to the list: spring1 2025 federal elections in which the main conservative political party saw its massive lead in the polls collapse as the embattled incumbent left…
