The greatest superhero mov___ of all time
"Across The Spider-Verse" is brilliant, but it is just half a movie.
They topped themselves. I didn’t think it was possible, but the makers of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, one of the most inventive animated films I’ve ever seen, actually surpassed their earlier accomplishments with the sequel.
Now we just have to wait nine months for the ending.
If you weren’t already aware, Across The Spider-Verse is part one of a two-part story. It ends on a truly stunning cliffhanger - actually, several cliffhangers, because there are a lot of threads to this plot, which you might expect for a movie with a multiverse populated by a seemingly infinite number of Spider-Mans, including a dune buggy named “Peter Parkedcar” - which should be resolved in Beyond The Spider-Verse, scheduled for release on March 29, 2024.
I’m a diehard opponent of overly long movies. If your movie is longer than the first Star Wars movie, which introduced so many iconic characters, a compelling story, and an entirely new cinematic universe in just over two hours, you’d better be able to justify it.1 Either that, or go to Netflix and make it a mini-series.
