Good thing for my preferred candidate, Jean Charest, that Ukraine is kicking so much ass lately, because otherwise he and not Vladmir Putin would look like the loser of the weekend.

I figured Poilievre was going to win the Conservative Party of Canada leadership race. Not in my wildest dreams (or worst nightmares) did I think it would be a rout on the level of an eighties Super Bowl. And it shows that I was right to be concerned that the election of Donald Trump would spill over into Canadian right-of-centre politics.

No, contrary to what #TruAnon Twitter1 says about Pierre Poilievre, he is neither as radical nor as mendacious as Trump. Not even close. But he’s very much a populist, as illustrated by his support for the “Freedom Convoy.”

Which might put Poilievre onside with a majority of Conservative Party members, but it’s not just CPC members who vote in federal elections:
