"Just like the majority-Muslim countries that excuse and even defend China’s persecution of the Uyghur Muslims"

The Uighurs are Turkic. Being non-Han the main reason why the Han oppress them. The clash is ancient and predates the Uighurs' adoption of Islam. It is an ethnic thing, first and foremost. The second factor of the "otherness" is language. Religion is third.

Most Muslim-majority countries aren't Turkic and don't relate to the Uighurs. Turkey has its own agenda regarding China. The weak Turkic Central Asian countries live in China's shadow and fear it.

The Saudis don't defend the Iranians, even though they are both Muslim. They despise each other. Because the Saudis are Arab and the Iranians are Persian (and the Saudis are Sunni and the Iranians are Shiite). Ethnicity is often a much stronger identity factor than religion.

Pleased to see your next mention by JVL in today's Bulwark. And I like the new variety of subjects in your blog since your move to Substack. The issues with China, for one, are something I'm sure we'd rather not think about too much since there is no clear path to address it, but as the incident with Morey shows, China is all too ready to tell other countries what to think. Looking forward to your next post :)

At least Trump’s picture is not hanging in American churches...(just yet....??).

If we want to be in a position to avoid benefitting from the work of “thought educated” laborers and cultural eradication programs, we need to become less dependent on them. While this takes time, we could make a start by limiting our purchases more to what we need rather than want. And do less to support Amazon into the bargain.

It’s good that Morey was supported...this time. But the pressure will undoubtedly continue.

I really don’t know what to think of O’Toole after his residential school comments. That was a surprising amount of insensitivity and then some. But the Liberals don’t look that great either, generally speaking. All the more reason to become more aware of our own politics, and appreciate the fact that we have more control in determining our government than people in many other countries, if we choose to use it.
