I’m sure he will disappoint me at times. I’m sure I’ll disagree with him regularly. I learned a long time ago not to put too much faith into any mere mortal, especially a politician. (If you’d asked me twenty years ago who my favorite American politician was, I likely would have said Rudy Giuliani.)
It won’t be long before the shine wears off, and we’ll learn that America’s problems aren’t going to go away just because there’s a new President. There will still be tragedies and injustices and controversies that keep us at each other’s throats.
But I remember the daze I was in for several days after the 2016 election, and the anger and frustration I’ve felt so many times since then. What kept me going was the hope that we’d be rid of him after just one term.
And now I feel more relieved than I have felt in a long, long time. I hope and pray that President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. has the wisdom and courage to lead his country - really, the free world - through this difficult time.
How will we know if he’s succeeded? If we find ourselves not thinking about him at all.
A sense of normalcy suddenly prevails. The news is starting to read like actual news again.
