As we mourn the remarkable accomplishments of Gen. Colin Powell (and debate the more controversial aspects of his career, particularly his role in the invasion of Iraq) I’m once again brought back to the George W. Bush era, when I was repeatedly assured that the Bush Administration was not merely bad but literally the new Nazis.

Very few people who seriously said this left the country or took up arms against this apparently existential threat. They just went back to blogging and watching Lost.

Fast forward to 2021, and progressives who believe politician X is not just promoting policies they disagree with but actively destroying the world seem ill inclined to do anything about it:
